Polygongan is an approach to musical creation and sound spatialization through geometry and the circle. It is a simplified version of some of the tools developed for the immersive project “42”.
Designed for everyone, its tablet interfaces offer a simple and playful way in: even non-musicians can experiment with Euclidean rhythms and use geometric shapes to generate dynamic melodies.
The immersive installation lets participants discover what is at stake in 360° sound diffusion. By playing with the perception of distance and the position of sound objects, participants find themselves at the very heart of the spatialization.
The workshop is completed by a presentation that summarizes part of the research behind these two concepts. This introduction adapts to its audience, from a simple initiation to more advanced discussions, making it a rewarding experience for every participant.
Polygongan accompanies the immersive project “42” on tour, giving audiences a deeper understanding of the concepts and implications of the work.
The tools
Three tablet interfaces let participants compose and spatialize sound in real time: an Euclidean rhythm sequencer, where beats are distributed evenly around circles; Geometry4Live, which turns polygons and their rotations into melodies; and a spatialization interface to move sounds around the listeners.

Polygongan is a workshop for everyone about the circle and geometry in musical creation and sound immersion.
Tablets turn circles and polygons into instruments, while a 360° sound system places participants at the heart of the spatialization.
